She loves her yoga, and cardio, too

Workout: I do cardio -- treadmill, StairMaster or bicycle -- five days a week, 45 to 60 minutes and I weight-train two to three times a week and I do a lot of yoga. I also bike around Miami Beach every chance I get.

Rest days: One or two, unless I'm sick.

Diet: I'm almost a vegan. Occasionally, I'll have a piece of chicken or fish, and I drink soy milk. During the holidays, if I eat more when I visit my in-laws I punish myself by working out on my days off.

Growing older: You gotta have a sense of humor because even if you kill yourself the way I do, you won't look like you did when your were 30. Sometimes it's an uphill battle.

Motivation: Trying to look better, feel better. Exercise is a huge mood enhancer.

Favorite pig-out food: Sushi, with brown rice.

Alternatives running out for Mid Valley

WASILLA -- It's up to the School Board to decide whether Mid Valley High School will remain open next year or shuts its doors permanently at the close of school in the spring, say Matanuska-Susitna Borough School District officials.

The alternative school, they say, failed to draw enough students this year and struggles each year to reach its projected enrollment -- a struggle that could cost the district thousands of dollars, they say. The district will build its fiscal year 2008 budget proposal without Mid Valley.

But Mid Valley surpassed its projections this year and has met its projections each year since it opened in 2002, say those at the school. The district, they say, is playing a numbers game to draw more students to its new career and technical education center, which should open next fall.

'American Idol' Winner Fronts Fitness Campaign

"American Idol" winner Ruben Studdard is encouraging people in his home state of Alabama to follow in his footsteps and lose unwanted weight.

The 28-year-old has lost 100 pounds and is asking the state's overweight residents to shed 10 pounds in eight weeks.

The singer is helping to promote the "Scale Back Alabama" initiative, which will see Alabama residents lose a total of 10 million pounds if successful.

He explains, "I'm not where I want to be, but I'm on the right track, and I'm excited about encouraging other Alabamians to begin their own weight-loss journeys."

Studdard's own weight-loss success was based on a regimen of eating a healthy diet and regular exercise, which were sparked by his effort to avoid a family history of diabetes and high blood pressure.

Fitness buff, volunteer who touched community dies

Christy Little was known from one end of the township to the other - and elsewhere in York County.

A wife, mother, fitness instructor, volunteer swim coach, avid Clemson football fan and giver of countless hours to her community, it was the intensity with which Little went through life that struck those who knew her.

"If you had a pres-cription for how to live and you look at Christy, that was it," said Rachel Logue, office manager at Sportscenter Athletic Club in Lake Wylie, where Little taught classes for more than eight years.

Little, of Fort Mill, died Dec. 5 from complications related to inflammation of the brain, known as encephalitis. She was 38.

The fitness coordinator at Sportscenter, Little taught classes as a personal trainer.
