Powerhouse Gym in Urbandale was founded as a combination of owner Mike Bonnett's interest in fitness and his desire to cut back on work-related travel and to spend more time at home with his family.
Bonnett's career for 12 years was working for companies that manage shipping for other companies, or what's called third-party logistics. As director of business development for Jacobson Logistics the past seven years, primarily a sales job, he spent a lot of time on the road and away from his wife, Allison, and two daughters, Taylor and Katelyn.
In March Bonnett changed careers and he and Allison purchased Fitness Forum, an existing gym in a strip mall on Northwest 86th Street. He converted the gym to Powerhouse Gym, added more equipment and is focused on providing motivation and guidance for members.
