Climbing walls challenge students physically and mentally
New horizontal climbing walls that are coming to the Natrona County School District will challenge students both physically and mentally.Although the walls are designed to encourage physical activity, Kristin Underwood, Lifetime Fitness Physical Education Grant coordinator, said they can be incorporated into the classroom and teach children a variety of skills."It incorporates teamwork through activity," she said. "Students learn personal and social skills. They're also building muscle and strengthening their endurance." The funding for the walls will come from a federal grant the district already has, and they're expected to cost less than $200,000.Although the school board recently awarded the work to Everlast Climbing Industries, of Minnesota, the bid is now on hold, Underwood said, declining to elaborate further on it.

Face the Music: New SHU fitness center will exceed expectations
For months, those who use the current fitness facilities in the Richie Regan Recreation and Athletic Center have seen signs posted stating that due to construction, certain parts would be closed indefinitely. Hope for better things to come for me started to dwindle right before Thanksgiving break when I actually gave up on going to the "gym" on campus. Both treadmills were broken and the wait for the three working elliptical machines would be so long it just wasn't worth it to me. For years there has been talk about a new fitness facility for students, and I always held out some hope. I enjoy exercising; ever since I lost 20 pounds before my senior year of high school it has been a huge part of my life. But after waiting 15 minutes to use a stationary bike that does nothing but make me go numb, I was one squeaky triceps-press machine away from throwing in the towel.
Meszaros struggles with role, more ice time
In a perfect world, Ottawa Senators head coach Bryan Murray would have liked to give Andrej Meszaros more breathing room this year. Though Meszaros had an exceptional rookie season last year, he is still only 21 and just scratching the surface of his NHL education. However, the team's collective struggles and injuries that forced Wade Redden to miss 17 of the first 37 games have forced Murray to use Meszaros more than they had wanted to going into the season. It hasn't been entirely successful, either. After averaging 18 minutes 10 seconds a game last year, which put him fourth on the team among defencemen, Meszaros was averaging 22:45 going into last night's game. That puts him first on the Senators. Last year, Meszaros finished the season at plus-34, but he was minus-14 going into last night's game.
